Welcome to the September 2026 Sports Round-Up from Sport @ Real Terryo and Real Terryo Daily Round Up.
September has been another action-packed month across the sporting world, with domestic football returning to centre stage, European competition getting underway, Formula 1 producing more memorable moments and plenty of developments across WWE and AEW.
This month's round-up brings together the key results, major stories and talking points from the sports we have followed throughout September. Alongside the results, we will also give our own thoughts on some of the month's biggest talking points before looking ahead to what October has in store.
As always, our aim is to bring you the sport as we see it — covering the results and important stories while also giving you our own perspective.
So, let's take a look back at September 2026.
⚽ Football
Football once again dominated our sporting coverage during September, with the Premier League and EFL providing plenty of goals, surprises, managerial changes and local rivalries.
The European competitions also returned, with the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League beginning their new League Stage formats. Meanwhile, the EFL Cup provided its usual mixture of giant-killings, comebacks and penalty drama.

Premier League
The Premier League continued to provide plenty of talking points during September, with Matchweeks 3, 4 and 5 taking place.
There were impressive victories, high-scoring encounters and some controversial moments, particularly during the Manchester Derby.
Matchweek 3
Liverpool continued their positive start to the season with a 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town, while Arsenal edged Chelsea 2-1.
Everton and Manchester United played out an entertaining 2-2 draw, while Crystal Palace beat Fulham 3-2.
Elsewhere, Manchester City narrowly defeated Coventry City 1-0, while Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur played out a goalless draw.
Matchweek 4
Manchester City claimed victory over Manchester United in the Manchester Derby, although the match was not without controversy. City's winning goal was awarded following a VAR review, prompting considerable debate.
Brighton & Hove Albion were one of the weekend's biggest winners, thrashing Coventry City 5-0, while Leeds United produced an impressive 4-1 victory over Newcastle United.
Liverpool were held to a goalless draw by Fulham, while Arsenal defeated Sunderland 2-0.
Matchweek 5
There were several eye-catching results in Matchweek 5.
Brentford produced an impressive 3-0 victory over Chelsea, while Brighton & Hove Albion defeated Arsenal by the same scoreline.
Manchester City and Sunderland produced the highest-scoring match of the weekend, with City eventually winning 5-3.
Liverpool edged Bournemouth 1-0, while Everton defeated Ipswich Town 1-0.
The November television amendments were announced on 21 September.
🏆 The EFL
The Championship, League One and League Two once again provided plenty of competitive football throughout September.
One of the biggest stories was the number of managerial changes, with Preston North End, Wycombe Wanderers and Peterborough United all making changes to their dugouts.
Sky Bet Championship
Swansea City enjoyed some memorable moments during the month, including victories over Watford and Burnley, while the Welsh derby against Wrexham ended in a goalless draw.
The Championship also featured several major local derbies, including the Welsh derby between Swansea City and Wrexham, the Lancashire derby between Preston North End and Blackburn Rovers, the Black Country derby between Birmingham City and Wolverhampton Wanderers and the Dockers Derby between Millwall and West Ham United.
Preston North End parted company with Paul Heckingbottom on 12 September, before appointing Graham Alexander as his replacement on 28 September.
West Ham United also produced one of the month's biggest Championship victories, beating Wrexham 6-0.

Sky Bet League One
League One produced several high-scoring encounters during September.
Leyton Orient, Reading, Stevenage, Stockport County and Oxford United were among the sides to record particularly notable victories.
There were also three managerial changes of particular interest during the month.
Wycombe Wanderers dismissed Michael Duff on 8 September, while Peterborough United parted company with Luke Williams on 19 September.

Sky Bet League Two
League Two continued to be highly competitive, with plenty of draws and several emphatic victories.
York City produced one of the month's biggest wins, defeating Swindon Town 4-0, while Salford City ended September with an impressive 4-1 victory over Oldham Athletic.

🏆 Domestic Cup Football
EFL Cup
The third round of the EFL Cup provided plenty of drama.
The standout tie was undoubtedly Chelsea's 6-3 comeback victory over Leeds United, with Chelsea recovering from two goals down to progress.
Peterborough United also produced a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over Barnsley after their match finished 3-3.
There were also convincing victories for Manchester City, who defeated Norwich City 5-0, and AFC Bournemouth, who beat Lincoln City 4-0.
🌍 European Football
September also marked the beginning of the League Stage of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.
UEFA Champions League
The opening matchday produced several impressive performances.
Barcelona began their campaign with a 5-1 victory over Feyenoord, while Paris Saint-Germain defeated Slovan Bratislava 6-1.
Bayern Munich also made a strong start, defeating Bodo/Glimt 5-0.
Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Aston Villa and Real Madrid were among the other clubs to begin their campaigns with victories.
UEFA Europa League
Crystal Palace made an impressive start to their European campaign, defeating Lech Poznan 4-0.
Juventus also recorded a convincing 5-0 victory over NEC Nijmegen, while Besiktas defeated Marseille 4-1.
Sunderland and AFC Bournemouth also began their campaigns with victories, beating AZ Alkmaar and Real Sociedad respectively.
🏎️ Formula 1
September was another eventful month in Formula 1.
Kimi Antonelli enjoyed a particularly successful period, winning both the Italian Grand Prix and Spanish Grand Prix.
George Russell also took victory at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
The 2027 Formula 1 calendar was announced on 16 September, providing fans with an early look at next year's championship schedule.
Aston Martin have also confirmed that Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll will remain with the team for 2027.
🤼 Wrestling
WWE
There was significant activity within WWE during September.
The company retired both the WWE Men's Speed Championship and WWE Women's Speed Championship.
WWE also released a number of NXT and Evolve performers during the month.
In terms of major championship developments, Trick Williams became United States Champion, while Sami Zayn won the Undisputed WWE Championship on the 11 September episode of SmackDown.
Stephanie Vaquer became Women's World Champion at a live event in Chile on 12 September.
WWE also held Worlds Collide, featuring AAA, while Jaida Parker made her main-roster debut on Raw on 28 September.
Attention now turns towards Money in the Bank, with matches already beginning to be announced for the October event.
AEW
AEW also had a busy month.
Former WWE star Ilja Dragunov joined AEW, while the company held its All Out pay-per-view.
All Out saw several championship changes and also featured the debut of former WWE and TNA wrestler Dani Luna.
AEW has continued its weekly Dynamite and Collision programming.
