July 2026 Sports Round-Up

Hello and welcome to the Sport @ Real Terryo July 2026 Sports Round-Up.

What a month of sport we have just had!

July has been an incredible month for sports fans, with the FIFA World Cup 2026 reaching its dramatic conclusion, the summer transfer window continuing to dominate football news, Formula 1 delivering more exciting races, and WWE and AEW building towards major events.

In this month's editorial, I will look back at some of the biggest stories and events we have covered here at Sport @ Real Terryo, share some of my own thoughts on the month's action, and then look ahead to what we will be covering throughout August.

⚽ Football

Fantasy Premier League

The new Premier League season is almost here, which means it is time to get your Fantasy Premier League team ready!

💰 Summer 2026 Transfer Window

The summer transfer window has continued to be incredibly busy throughout July, with clubs across the football world strengthening their squads ahead of the new season.

There have been plenty of transfers already, but I still expect more major deals to happen before the window closes.

With the FIFA World Cup now finished, clubs will also have had the opportunity to assess players who performed well during the tournament. I wouldn't be surprised to see some big moves happen as we approach the end of the transfer window.

🏟️ Premier League

The Premier League has continued to make headlines during the summer.

Nottingham Forest appointed Oliver Glasner as their new manager on 6th July, while Fulham appointed Álvaro Arbeloa the following day.

The Premier League also announced television fixture amendments for August and September.

Players have now started returning to their clubs for pre-season, although those who represented their countries at the World Cup have been given additional time away following the tournament.

Pre-season friendlies have also started taking place as clubs prepare for the new campaign.

The month ended with another major managerial change, as Eddie Howe left Newcastle United on 31st July.

It has already been a fascinating summer for Premier League managers, and I expect we could see more changes before the new season begins.

🏆 EFL

Sky Bet Championship

The Championship has also been busy preparing for the new season.

Television fixture amendments for August and September were released on 2nd July, with further amendments covering October, November, December and 1st January 2027 announced on 30th July.

Burnley appointed Nicky Hayen as their new manager on 10th July.

Players have returned to their clubs for pre-season, apart from those involved in the World Cup, while pre-season friendlies have now begun.

The Championship is always one of the most competitive divisions in English football, and I am looking forward to seeing how the new season develops.

Sky Bet League One

League One clubs have also been preparing for the new campaign.

The August and September television amendments were released on 2nd July, with further changes covering October, November, December and 1st January 2027 announced at the end of the month.

Players have returned for pre-season, while clubs have begun playing friendly matches ahead of the new campaign.

It won't be long before the League One season gets underway, and I am expecting another exciting and competitive campaign.

Sky Bet League Two

League Two also produced some managerial news during July.

York City parted company with Stuart Maynard on 26th July before appointing Scott Lindsey as their new manager the following day.

Newport County also appointed Hayden Mullins as their new manager on 31st July.

The division's television fixture amendments have also been announced, with clubs continuing their preparations for the new season.

🌍 FIFA World Cup 2026

The biggest story of July was undoubtedly the conclusion of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

After an incredible group stage and the first round of knockout matches, the tournament entered its final stages during July.

There was no shortage of drama.

Round of 32

The remaining Round of 32 matches produced some exciting results.

Mexico defeated Ecuador 2-0, while England came from behind to beat DR Congo 2-1.

Belgium produced a fantastic comeback against Senegal, recovering from two goals down to win 3-2 after extra time.

Spain comfortably defeated Austria 3-0, while Portugal came from behind to beat Croatia 2-1.

Australia drew 1-1 with Egypt before Egypt won the penalty shootout 4-2.

Argentina defeated Cape Verde 3-2, while Colombia edged past Ghana 1-0.

Round of 16

The Round of 16 delivered even more drama.

Morocco impressed again with a 3-0 victory over Canada, while France defeated Paraguay 1-0.

One of the biggest shocks came when Norway defeated Brazil 2-1, sending one of the tournament favourites home.

England defeated Mexico 3-2 in an entertaining match, while Spain edged past Portugal 1-0.

Belgium produced one of their best performances of the tournament by hammering the USA 4-1.

Argentina then produced a remarkable comeback against Egypt, recovering from 2-0 down to win 3-2.

Switzerland and Colombia played out a goalless draw before Switzerland won 4-3 on penalties.

Quarter-Finals

The Quarter-Finals saw France defeat Morocco 2-0.

Spain continued their impressive tournament with a 1-0 victory over Belgium.

England produced another dramatic comeback, defeating Norway 2-1 after extra time.

Argentina needed extra time to overcome Switzerland 3-1.

The Semi-Final line-up was now confirmed.

Semi-Finals

Spain defeated France 2-0 to reach the World Cup Final.

In the second Semi-Final, Argentina came from behind to beat England 2-1.

This meant Spain and Argentina would meet in the biggest match in international football.

Third Place Play-Off

England and France met in the Third Place Play-Off.

The match produced an incredible 10-goal thriller, with England eventually defeating France 6-4 to claim third place.

It was certainly not the result I predicted, but it was an unforgettable match.

FIFA World Cup Final

The World Cup Final saw Spain take on Argentina.

After a tense and closely fought contest, Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 after extra time.

🇪🇸 SPAIN ARE WORLD CHAMPIONS! 🏆

Congratulations to Spain on winning the FIFA World Cup 2026.

It was a fantastic tournament filled with surprises, dramatic comebacks and memorable matches.

I was delighted that our prediction correctly had Spain beating Argentina in the Final, although I certainly didn't predict a 1-0 scoreline!

The World Cup has once again shown why it remains the biggest sporting event on the planet.

🏎️ Formula 1

Formula 1 also provided plenty of action during July.

Kimi Antonelli won the British Sprint before Charles Leclerc claimed victory at the British Grand Prix.

Antonelli then continued his impressive form by winning the Belgian Grand Prix.

It was also announced that Malaysia will host the postponed Bahrain Grand Prix in October.

The month ended with Lando Norris winning the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The championship continues to provide plenty of excitement, and the battle at the front remains one to watch as we head towards the second half of the season.

🤼 Wrestling

WWE

WWE has spent much of July building towards one of its biggest events of the year, SummerSlam, which takes place over two nights in August.

There have been plenty of major developments.

The Vision won the WWE World Tag Team Championships, while CM Punk became the Undisputed WWE Champion on the 7th July episode of Raw.

Baron Corbin returned to WWE on SmackDown, while Reina Volcán made her NXT debut.

WWE also announced that Rhea Ripley will miss SummerSlam due to injury. As a result, an Interim WWE Women's Champion will be crowned at the event.

The company also held Saturday Night's Main Event, where Fatal Influence won the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships.

Former TNA wrestler Mike Santana made his WWE debut on NXT, while Raquel Rodriguez became the new Women's Intercontinental Champion.

Grayson Waller also returned to NXT.

With SummerSlam just around the corner, WWE has plenty of storylines to keep fans interested.

AEW

AEW has also been preparing for its major All In event next month.

The company has continued announcing matches for the show while several wrestlers have departed following the end of their contracts.

At the same time, AEW has signed several wrestlers to new deals.

One of the biggest moments of the month came when Kenny Omega won the AEW World Championship on the 8th July episode of Dynamite.

AEW also held its Redemption pay-per-view, which was a good event and saw several new champions crowned.

The Demand became the new World Trios Champions on Dynamite, while the Motor City Machine Guns joined AEW and made their debut on Collision.

With All In approaching, AEW has another huge month ahead.

📝 Final Thoughts

July has been an incredible month for sport.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 dominated the headlines, and Spain were deservedly crowned world champions after defeating Argentina in the Final.

Away from international football, the summer transfer window has continued to provide plenty of news, while Premier League and EFL clubs have begun their preparations for the new season.

Formula 1 has produced more memorable races, while WWE and AEW have both been building towards major events in August.

For me, the highlight of July was undoubtedly the FIFA World Cup. Covering the tournament with our predictions throughout the group stage and knockout rounds has been fantastic, and I am delighted that our prediction for Spain to beat Argentina in the Final came true.

Now, though, we turn our attention to the new football season.

August is going to be a huge month for Sport @ Real Terryo, with the Premier League and Championship seasons getting underway, the summer transfer window reaching its climax, the UEFA Super Cup and Community Shield, the Carabao Cup, Formula 1 and two nights of WWE SummerSlam.
