Hello and welcome to the Sport @ Real Terryo August 2026 Sports Round-Up.

It has been another busy month across the sporting world, with plenty of football action, major transfer news, Formula 1 drama and developments across WWE and AEW.

In this month's round-up, we look back at the sports we have covered during August, highlight some of the biggest stories and results, share our thoughts, and look ahead to what Sport @ Real Terryo will be covering in September.

💷 Summer 2026 Transfer Window

The summer transfer window has provided plenty of talking points, with clubs across Europe spending significant amounts of money to strengthen their squads.

There have been a huge number of transfers during August, with clubs continuing to reshape their teams ahead of the new campaign.

The summer transfer window closed at 11pm BST on 1st September.

Premier League

The new Premier League season has certainly started with plenty of drama.

Newcastle United appointed Matthias Jaissle as their new manager on 5th August, while the final pre-season friendlies took place before the campaign officially got underway.

The October and early-November television amendments were also announced on 17th August.

Matchweek 1

There were some major surprises during the opening weekend.

Arsenal began their campaign with a convincing 3-0 victory over Coventry City, while newly promoted Hull City produced one of the biggest shocks by defeating Manchester United 2-0.

Everton defeated Crystal Palace 2-0, Ipswich Town beat Sunderland 2-1 and Leeds United edged past Nottingham Forest 1-0.

Brentford produced an impressive 3-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, while Brighton & Hove Albion stunned Aston Villa with a huge 4-0 win.

Manchester City had to come from behind to defeat AFC Bournemouth 2-1, Newcastle United drew 2-2 with Liverpool and Chelsea defeated Fulham 3-2.

Matchweek 2

Manchester City responded strongly by hammering Crystal Palace 4-1.

Liverpool drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest, while Bournemouth and Everton played out a 1-1 draw.

Hull City continued their impressive start by defeating Coventry City 1-0, while Newcastle United beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0.

Chelsea edged Brighton & Hove Albion in a seven-goal thriller, winning 4-3.

Leeds United drew 1-1 with Brentford, Sunderland defeated Fulham 1-0 and Manchester United bounced back spectacularly by coming from behind to hammer Ipswich Town 5-2.

Arsenal also continued their strong start by beating Aston Villa 1-0.

EFL Championship

The Championship has already provided plenty of excitement during the opening weeks of the season.

The final pre-season friendlies took place before the campaign began.

Matchweek 1

Wolverhampton Wanderers drew 2-2 with Blackburn Rovers, while Bolton Wanderers defeated Preston North End 2-1.

Millwall beat Bristol City 2-0, Charlton Athletic came from behind to defeat Derby County 2-1 and Middlesbrough also came from behind to beat Lincoln City 2-1.

West Bromwich Albion defeated Norwich City 2-1, Queens Park Rangers came from behind to beat Portsmouth 3-1 and Swansea City recovered to defeat Stoke City 2-1.

Sheffield United drew 0-0 with Birmingham City, Watford defeated Southampton 2-1 and Burnley came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with West Ham United.

Cardiff City and Wrexham played out a 1-1 draw in the Welsh derby.

Matchweek 2

Birmingham City drew 2-2 with Bristol City, while Portsmouth defeated Lincoln City 3-1.

Millwall hammered Norwich City 3-0 and Blackburn Rovers came from behind to beat Middlesbrough 2-1.

Derby County and Cardiff City drew 2-2, while Wolves defeated Preston North End 3-1.

QPR and Bolton played out a goalless draw, Southampton defeated Stoke City 3-1 and Swansea drew 0-0 with Sheffield United.

Charlton Athletic produced a surprise 2-1 victory over West Ham United.

Wrexham drew 1-1 with Watford, while West Bromwich Albion came from behind to beat Burnley 3-1.

Matchweek 3

Birmingham City defeated Wrexham 2-1, while Swansea City hammered Derby County 3-0.

Middlesbrough beat West Bromwich Albion 3-1 and Wolves produced a convincing 4-1 victory over Stoke City.

QPR defeated Blackburn Rovers 2-1, Lincoln City beat Bolton Wanderers 1-0 and Bristol City defeated Portsmouth 2-1.

Cardiff City drew 2-2 with Sheffield United, Charlton Athletic beat Preston North End 1-0 and Norwich City hammered Burnley 4-1.

Southampton produced one of the biggest wins of the weekend by thrashing Millwall 5-1, while Watford drew 1-1 with West Ham United.

Sky Bet League One

League One has also provided plenty of goals and surprises during August.

Matchweek 1

Notts County drew 1-1 with Leicester City, Oxford United drew 2-2 with MK Dons and Luton Town defeated Reading 4-3.

Bromley beat Barnsley 1-0, Blackpool drew 1-1 with Wycombe Wanderers and Bradford City defeated Peterborough United 2-0.

Burton Albion drew 1-1 with Stevenage, Cambridge United beat Wigan Athletic 3-2 and Huddersfield Town hammered AFC Wimbledon 3-0.

Sheffield Wednesday defeated Leyton Orient 2-1, Mansfield Town beat Doncaster Rovers 2-1 and Stockport County defeated Plymouth Argyle 3-1.

Matchweek 2

Bradford City defeated Sheffield Wednesday 1-0, Doncaster Rovers drew 0-0 with Barnsley and Luton Town drew 2-2 with Notts County.

AFC Wimbledon and Reading played out a goalless draw, while Bromley drew 1-1 with Cambridge United.

Burton Albion defeated Leicester City 2-1, MK Dons drew 1-1 with Huddersfield Town and Peterborough United beat Mansfield Town 2-1.

Oxford United defeated Stevenage 2-1, Blackpool beat Stockport County 2-1, Leyton Orient defeated Wigan Athletic 2-0 and Wycombe drew 1-1 with Plymouth Argyle.

Matchweek 3

Blackpool hammered Peterborough United 4-0, while MK Dons drew 0-0 with Leicester City.

Huddersfield Town defeated Cambridge United 2-1, Barnsley beat Leyton Orient 3-1 and Notts County defeated Burton Albion 2-1.

Plymouth Argyle beat Bradford City 2-0, while Sheffield Wednesday produced a remarkable 7-2 victory over Bromley.

Stevenage drew 2-2 with Doncaster Rovers, Stockport County hammered Wycombe Wanderers 5-1 and AFC Wimbledon defeated Wigan Athletic 1-0.

Mansfield Town hammered Luton Town 5-2, while Oxford United vs Reading was postponed.

Sky Bet League Two

League Two has also been full of action, goals and unpredictable results.

Matchweek 1

Newport County hammered Rochdale 3-0, Oldham Athletic defeated Port Vale 2-0 and Accrington Stanley drew 2-2 with Colchester United.

Barnet defeated Salford City 3-1, Cheltenham Town beat Rotherham United 2-1 and Fleetwood Town defeated Chesterfield 1-0.

Crewe Alexandra beat Crawley Town 1-0, Walsall hammered Gillingham 3-0 and Grimsby Town defeated Exeter City 1-0.

Northampton Town drew 0-0 with Swindon Town, Tranmere Rovers beat Shrewsbury Town 2-0 and York City defeated Bristol Rovers 3-2.

Matchweek 2

Bristol Rovers defeated Newport County 5-3, Chesterfield beat Salford City 1-0 and Walsall drew 0-0 with Grimsby Town.

Colchester United defeated Oldham Athletic 2-1, Crewe Alexandra beat Northampton Town 1-0 and Exeter City defeated Accrington Stanley 2-0.

Fleetwood Town drew 0-0 with Gillingham, Port Vale drew 1-1 with Tranmere Rovers and Crawley Town beat Rochdale 2-1.

Rotherham United drew 1-1 with York City, Barnet beat Shrewsbury Town 3-1 and Swindon Town defeated Cheltenham Town 2-1.

Matchweek 3

Barnet drew 2-2 with Cheltenham Town, Port Vale drew 0-0 with Crewe Alexandra and Rotherham United defeated Chesterfield 2-1.

Colchester United beat Rochdale 1-0, Bristol Rovers defeated Crawley Town 2-0 and Gillingham drew 1-1 with Northampton Town.

Grimsby Town drew 2-2 with Fleetwood Town, Newport County drew 2-2 with Tranmere Rovers and Oldham Athletic hammered Swindon Town 3-0.

Shrewsbury Town defeated Salford City 1-0, Walsall beat Accrington Stanley 3-2 and York City defeated Exeter City 2-1.

Domestic Competitions

FA Community Shield

Arsenal made a statement in the Community Shield by hammering Manchester City 3-0.

Arsenal won the 2026 Community Shield.

Carabao Cup

The Carabao Cup has already produced plenty of drama.

The Preliminary Round saw Tranmere Rovers draw 2-2 with Rochdale, with Rochdale winning 2-1 on penalties, while Crawley Town defeated York City 2-0.

The First Round then delivered several memorable results, including Wolves' 3-0 victory over Port Vale, West Ham United's 3-1 win over Portsmouth and West Bromwich Albion's 4-1 victory over Rotherham United.

There were also several penalty shootouts, including Millwall's victory over QPR, AFC Wimbledon's win against Newport County and Reading's victory over Bromley.

The Second Round produced even more drama.

Brentford hammered Birmingham City 6-1, Peterborough United thrashed Watford 5-1, Tottenham Hotspur defeated Charlton Athletic 5-1 and Everton hammered Preston North End 4-0.

Chelsea defeated Luton Town 2-0, while Newcastle United edged West Bromwich Albion 3-2.

There were also penalty shootouts, with Hull City defeating Stoke City and Leyton Orient overcoming Walsall.

European Competitions

UEFA Super Cup

Paris Saint-Germain defeated Aston Villa 2-1 in the UEFA Super Cup.

Paris Saint-Germain were crowned 2026 Super Cup winners.

🏎️ Formula 1

August also provided plenty of Formula 1 news.

Carlos Sainz signed a new contract with Williams, while Max Verstappen signed a new contract with Red Bull that runs until 2030.

George Russell won the Dutch Grand Prix Sprint race before Lando Norris won the Dutch Grand Prix.

Norris also signed a new contract with McLaren that will keep him with the team until 2030.

🤼 Wrestling

WWE

WWE had a busy August, with two major premium live events taking place.

The month began with the two-night SummerSlam, which delivered plenty of memorable moments. Nick Aldis wrestled his first WWE match, while Randy Orton and Kevin Owens returned from injury.

Baron Corbin won the United States Championship, Chelsea Green won the Interim WWE Women's Championship and Chad Gable became Intercontinental Champion.

Brie Bella was also injured during the event.

Big Cass returned to WWE after eight years away, while Becky Lynch returned following a two-month absence.

Stephanie Vaquer also returned from injury on the 3rd August episode of Raw.

Myles Borne and Tavion Heights won the NXT Tag Team Championships on the 4th August episode of NXT.

Brock Lesnar announced that he had officially retired from wrestling.

WWE Women's Champion Rhea Ripley confirmed that she had undergone surgery on her injured knee.

Tatum Paxley moved from NXT to SmackDown and made her main roster debut, while Interim WWE Women's Champion Chelsea Green suffered an injury on the 7th August episode of SmackDown.

Zilla Fatu joined WWE and made his debut on the 11th August episode of NXT.

The MFTs won the WWE Tag Team Championships, while Jacy Jayne won the Women's United States Championship on the 14th August episode of SmackDown.

WWE also began announcing matches for Sunday Night's Main Event, which takes place next month.

Ilja Dragunov left the company after his contract expired, while Kyoki made his debut on the 21st August episode of SmackDown.

The second major WWE event of the month was NXT Heatwave, which delivered another entertaining night and saw new champions crowned.

AEW

AEW also had an eventful August.

Brody King, Bandido and Hangman Adam Page won the AEW World Trios Championships on the 5th August episode of Dynamite.

AEW then held its All In event, where several wrestlers returned and new champions were crowned.

Former WWE stars Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods also made their AEW debuts, competing under the name New Level.

AEW has continued with its weekly Dynamite and Collision programming.
