Welcome to today’s news briefing from Real Terryo Media, covering the biggest stories shaping Wales, the UK, and beyond.

 📅 12/06/2026

From controversial sentencing in a high-profile activist case, to a serious railway incident in Warwickshire, major global aviation investigations, and renewed debate over justice for grooming survivors, today’s headlines reflect a wide range of social and political tensions across the UK and beyond.

🇬🇧 Activists jailed over Elbit Systems factory raid

Four activists linked to Palestine Action have been jailed following a violent raid on a defence-linked factory near Bristol in August 2024. The court heard that the group caused around £1.2 million worth of damage during the break-in at the Elbit Systems site, with one police officer suffering life-changing injuries, including a fractured spine.

Samuel Corner, 23, received a sentence of seven years and eight months after being convicted of criminal damage and grievous bodily harm. Judges described the force used during the incident as “extreme and gratuitous.” Charlotte Head, 30, Leona Kamio, 30, and Fatema Rajwani, 21, also received prison sentences ranging from four to five years.

The case has drawn national attention after prosecutors argued it carried a terrorism connection, a claim strongly disputed by defence lawyers who described the approach as “unprecedented” and “dangerous for justice.”

🚆 Man arrested after railway bridge collapse in Warwickshire

A 64-year-old man has been arrested following a serious incident in Warwickshire where a railway bridge partially collapsed after being struck by a lorry. Police confirmed he is being investigated on suspicion of endangering passengers and failing to stop after a collision.

The crash caused major disruption on the West Coast Main Line, one of the UK’s busiest rail routes, forcing cancellations and delays between key cities including London, Birmingham, and Manchester. Network Rail confirmed the structure sustained “serious damage,” although no injuries were reported.

Rail operators have warned that disruption could continue while engineers carry out urgent structural assessments and repairs.

✈️ More time needed in Air India crash investigation

Investigators in India say they are not yet ready to publish the final findings into the devastating Air India Flight 171 crash, which killed 260 people when it went down shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad in 2025.

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau confirmed “significant progress” has been made but said further analysis is required before conclusions can be drawn. Early findings previously suggested fuel control switches were moved shortly after take-off, causing a catastrophic loss of engine power.

The tragedy remains one of the deadliest aviation disasters in recent years, with international scrutiny continuing over cockpit procedures, aircraft systems, and operational safety.

⚖️ Grooming survivors still being failed, BBC told

Baroness Louise Casey has warned that victims of child sexual exploitation who were later criminalised are still being failed by the justice system, despite government efforts to address historic wrongs.

She criticised a recent legal approach to pardoning “child prostitution” convictions as insufficient, describing it as a “lazy option” that does not go far enough to repair long-term damage done to survivors’ lives.

Survivors interviewed by the BBC described decades of trauma and the lasting impact of criminal records acquired while they were being exploited as children. Many say current schemes do not cover the full range of convictions linked to their abuse, leaving them with ongoing barriers to employment, education, and rehabilitation.

The government says it is reviewing additional cases through the Criminal Cases Review Commission, alongside wider investment in tackling child sexual exploitation.

🌍 Fact of the Day

The United Kingdom operates more than 1,500 railway bridges that require regular inspection cycles, with structural monitoring increasingly supported by digital sensor technology to detect early signs of stress or impact damage.

Global aviation investigations can take several years to complete due to the complexity of reconstructing flight data, engineering systems, and human decision-making factors.

The world’s busiest passenger airport by international traffic is still Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport, handling over 100 million passengers annually in peak years.
