A Pontypool man was sentenced to 33 months in prison following a sustained campaign of coercive and controlling behaviour against his girlfriend. The court heard details of repeated abuse and threats during the relationship.

In Abergavenny, police launched a major investigation after a man in his twenties was left in a life-threatening condition following an early morning incident.

A separate Llanelli case saw two people sentenced after a Mercedes was set on fire in what prosecutors described as a revenge attack.

Political developments also dominated headlines.
