Kate Hudson Set to Produce How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days Sequel 23 Years After Original

Rom-com fans could be getting another chance to see Andie Anderson and Benjamin Barry together, with a sequel to How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days reportedly in the very early stages of development.

More than two decades after the original film became a romantic-comedy favourite, Kate Hudson is set to produce a follow-up, with reports suggesting that both Hudson and Matthew McConaughey could potentially return to their iconic roles.

Released in 2003, the original movie followed magazine journalist Andie, played by Hudson, who sets out to write an article about dating by deliberately trying to make a man leave her within 10 days. Her target is advertising executive Benjamin, played by McConaughey, who has secretly made a bet that he can make a woman fall in love with him.

The two find themselves caught in a relationship built around competing schemes, resulting in one of the most recognisable romantic comedies of the early 2000s.

A Long-Awaited Reunion

Hudson, now 47, is reportedly attached to produce the sequel alongside Stacey Sher, whose producing credits include films such as Pulp Fiction and Matilda.

While the project remains in its early stages, reports indicate that Hudson and McConaughey, 56, could reprise their roles. However, no casting or production details have been officially confirmed.

The original film was a commercial success, taking almost $180 million worldwide during its theatrical run.

It also became known for its fashion, particularly the striking yellow Carolina Herrera dress worn by Hudson towards the end of the movie, which remains one of the film's most memorable visual moments.

Hudson and McConaughey Back Together?

The possibility of another Hudson-McConaughey collaboration is likely to generate plenty of nostalgia among fans.

The pair previously worked together again in the 2008 adventure comedy Fool's Gold, but their chemistry in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days remains particularly popular with rom-com audiences.

McConaughey has previously spoken warmly about working with Hudson on the original movie, recalling that the pair immediately felt comfortable around one another and spent much of filming laughing and joking.

Hudson's most recent film role came in 2025's Song Sung Blue, while McConaughey has built a wide-ranging career spanning romantic comedies, dramas and action films, including his Oscar-winning performance in Dallas Buyers Club.

Hollywood Looks Back Again

The proposed sequel is another example of Hollywood returning to popular films from previous decades.

The industry has increasingly embraced legacy sequels, with projects such as The Devil Wears Prada 2 bringing original casts and characters back years after their first appearances.

For fans of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, however, the biggest question will be whether Hudson and McConaughey ultimately return as Andie and Benjamin.

For now, the sequel remains at an early development stage — but after 23 years, the possibility of another chapter has certainly got rom-com fans talking.
