The husband of Norfolk GP Dr Hannah Terry has appeared in court charged with her murder after she was found dead at their home in Dersingham.

Mark Cain, 45, appeared at Norwich Magistrates' Court on Wednesday after being charged with murder on Tuesday.

Dr Terry, also known as Hannah Cain, was found dead at a property in Fern Hill, Dersingham, on Sunday.

Defendant Remanded in Custody

Cain appeared wearing a black sweatshirt and spoke only to confirm his name, age and address.

He was not asked to enter a plea during the hearing.

District Judge Matthew Bone remanded him in custody and ordered him to appear at King's Lynn Crown Court on Thursday.

The murder charge is an allegation and has not been proven in court.

Court Hears Details of Investigation

Prosecutor Jacqui Hanlon told the court that the ambulance service contacted police at approximately 02:25 BST on Sunday.

The court heard that Dr Terry was found in an upstairs bedroom.

A post-mortem examination has been carried out as part of the investigation.

The prosecution told the court that the examination identified a blunt force injury to the right side of Dr Terry's head and an injury that could be consistent with compression of the neck.

The details were presented to the court as part of the prosecution case.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Dr Terry's death.

Tributes to Dr Hannah Terry

Dr Terry was a member of the practice team at Grimston Medical Centre, which temporarily closed following her death.

The medical centre reopened on Wednesday.

An NHS statement issued on behalf of the practice described Dr Terry as a highly respected colleague and a valued member of the NHS and primary care community.

The statement said she was an exceptional doctor who was intelligent, kind and generous, adding that she brought warmth and positivity to those around her.

The practice has said it will not comment on the circumstances surrounding her death.

A Community in Mourning

Dr Terry's death has left colleagues, patients and members of the local community mourning a doctor who had dedicated her career to caring for others.

Dersingham is close to the Sandringham estate in west Norfolk, while Grimston lies further south.

Reports have also said Dr Terry was among doctors regularly on call for members of the Royal Family.

What Happens Next

Mark Cain remains in custody and is due to appear at King's Lynn Crown Court on Thursday.

The court process will now continue while police investigate the circumstances surrounding Dr Terry's death.

At this stage, Cain faces an allegation of murder and has not been convicted of the offence.

The investigation and court proceedings remain ongoing.
