It began with a series of unsettling tip-offs shared between agencies in England and Germany — reports suggesting that women may have been drugged and sexually assaulted without their knowledge.

Dutch police soon opened a major investigation, uncovering what they now believe could be a coordinated network operating in secret online spaces.

Four men have been arrested after officers carried out raids on eight homes across the Netherlands in late May. Inside, investigators found computers, phones, USB sticks, and memory cards — all now being analysed for evidence.

Authorities say the suspects are believed to have been involved in private online groups where disturbing material was allegedly shared, including advice on drugging victims and circulating sexual images.

Police also suspect that some women may have been targeted by people they knew personally, making the alleged crimes even harder to detect. In some cases, victims may not even realise what happened to them.

As the investigation deepens, officials say the number of potential victims is still unknown, and more arrests could follow.

A spokesperson for the Dutch sexual crimes unit described the case as having “an enormous impact,” warning that discovering abuse after the fact can be deeply traumatic for survivors.

For now, detectives continue to piece together digital evidence in what is becoming one of the country’s most complex and disturbing investigations.
