Katherine Jenkins has paid tribute to her 'mentor and friend' Dame Vera Lynn who has died at the age of 103.
The singer described Dame Vera Lynn as 'an icon' and 'an inspiration' and said that she was a 'mentor' as well as a 'friend.
The two singers recently came together to record a special version of Dame Vera Lynn's song 'We'll Meet Again' to raise money for NHS Charities Together.
The single went to number one in the iTunes charts ahead of the 75th VE Day celebrations.
Katherine Jenkins posted a special tribute to Dame Vera Lynn on her Instagram page, saying that she will be 'greatly' missed.
I simply cannot find the words to explain just how much I adored this wonderful lady. Her voice brought comfort to millions in their darkest hours, her songs filled the nations hearts with hope, and her emotive performances, whether home or abroad, then or now, helped to get us through. It was she who chose the sentiments of her songs - she knew instinctively what people needed to hear, how to rally the morale and her spirit and strength created the soundtrack of a generation. There will never be another Dame Vera Lynn. Forces Sweetheart and our sweetheart. An icon. A legend. An inspiration. My mentor & my friend. I will miss you greatly and I know we’ll meet again some sunny day.
