So it was a Saturday in May—like every Saturday for the past six months, I was walking to church, headphones in, music playing. My playlist is always a mix of everything—a little chaos, a little comfort. That morning, something caught my eye. A man ahead wore a t-shirt that read, in bold letters: ESSENTIALS.

From a young age, I have always felt God’s presence around me. Even as a child, I sensed that something greater was guiding and protecting me, though I could not yet put it into words. It wasn’t until I grew older that I began to truly understand what faith meant—to trust in God not just in moments of joy, but also in times of struggle.

The song’s refrain—“We belong to something new”—echoes a central message found in the Gospels of Mark and Luke: the call to embrace the transformative power of God’s kingdom and to live as those who are set apart for a new way of life. In both Gospels, Jesus consistently calls people out of their old routines, their familiar “homes,” and invites them into a journey that requires trust, courage, and openness to change.
